Stockholm duo Death Team are slowly turning heads with their no-nonsense approach to electro pop. Their new single ‘Work’ employs an electro/trap sound which is beginning to feel stale, but lyrically they’re addressing an inevitable part of life that affects us all. Maja and Johan of Death Team say, “This song is about the feeling when you have to go to work even if you don’t want to. Because if you didn’t you would end up on the street. And you also love to have some money so you can buy stuff that’s on sale. Maybe a nice dress.” Slightly simplistic but perfectly relatable.
The elephant in the room is the fact that it all feels a bit recycled. One can’t ignore the similarities to Rihanna’s 2016 hit with the same name as well as the generic hip-hop beat and electronics.
