Canadian singer-songwriter the Weeknd rose to fame following anonymous uploads to Youtube. Now, he’s collaborated with likes of Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran and Lana Del Ray as well as producing a track for the movie adaption of Fifty Shades of Grey. His new single sees him team up with dance music veterans Daft Punk on a song that hits me as underwhelming from both parties. A theme of jealousy with added cliché about cars, money and fame, it’s actually quite nauseating. Daft Punk do very little to add any production flare, making ‘Starboy’ mediocre at best. This is a musical equivalent of the waiter bringing you bread before your meal. It’s bland but it fills a time gap. Let’s hope the main course isn’t under or overcooked.
